I had a hard time thinking about something really funny to do for Father’s Day, many ideas ran through my little pea brain, but nothing really hit my sweet spot so to speak. So I thought back a couple years ago to a conversation I had with my Dad. It had been a rough day or two with the kids fighting and tearing up the place constantly and doing the things that kids do, unintentionally I believe, to torture their parents and I had had just about enough. Then it occurred to me that everything they were doing to me, I had done to my Dad. Everything that I was saying to them, my Dad had said to me. Every threat I made, every thing that ran through my head…..my Dad had said to me at one time or another. It was at this point that I realized…..OH MY GOD! IT’S HAPPENED!……..I’VE BECOME MY FATHER!!!!!! IT’S NOT JUST AN URBAN LEGEND AFTER ALL!!!! I immediately picked up the phone and called him and said “I want to apologize for everything I did to you when I was a kid.” I also thanked him for being the Dad that he was. He just laughed and said that he knew that someday I would understand everything (and I did, finally) he said that I would appreciate him more (and I do). And yes, he did say that he had been waiting for a long time for that particular phone call to come, and it did.
So I finally had my idea for this week’s “Father’s Day” comic strip. It may not be hysterically funny, but that’s not what I was going for. I wanted to do something that felt real and not make believe, something that other people could relate to and be kind of touching at the same time. I think I’ve stayed true to that and I hope you enjoy it.
To my Dad I want to say “Happy Father’s Day” and that I hope I can be half the father to my kids that you have been to me for the last 40 years. I don’t say it very often but I know that you know I love you and I have always appreciated everything you’ve done and everything you do and I always will. Happy Father’s Day dad, this one’s for you!

ha ha nice! So what is this thing you want me to do at BATV? lol
That was a very touching and SO TRUE story. Made me remember being able to tell my dad for a last time how thankful I was for EVERYTHING he did for me growing up. It has made me a better person and parent because of it. Hope you had a wonderful father’s day!
